Most probably nothing remains today of the Vitéz family’s old castle, though the turret which served as a granary in the 19th century still stood in the 60’s, albeit in a collapsing state. Part of its stones was probably used, however, in the construction of the manor, built on the same hilltop it once stood on.

Perhaps it never belonged to the Bánffy family at all, but belonged to the Vitéz family as well; the Bánffy name could have been attributed to the castle through a legends, about which Orbán Balázs wrote the following: “It is in this castle that in 1674, on the occasion of the christening of Vitéz Gábor’s son, the Szekler armies were sent to capture Bánffy Dénes, and although Bánffy managed to escape on horseback, he could not escape his fate, as only the executioner’s axe awaited him at Bethlen castle soon after.”
