In 1647 the Kemény family received the estate in Chieșd as a gift from György Rákóczi I. The estate used to belong to count György Sarmasági, who didn't have any heirs. The descendants of baron Árpád Kemény, who had built the manor, have rarely used the estate from Chieșd, therefore when the writer Mor Petri visited the place in 1900, he found only the ruins of the manor house.
